Protein Shows Promise as Bladder Cancer Biomarker
Researchers at the University of Florida in Jacksonville and the University of Michigan have identified a protein which is present in the urine of bladder cancer patients, but absent in other individuals. The discovery of this potential biomarker moves scientists closer to developing improved diagnostic tools for finding the disease while it is still in the early stages. The same protein has also been linked to liver and ovarian cancers in previous studies. A report on the research is due to be published in the July 6, 2007, edition of the Journal of Proteome Research.
