Imager Sees Cervical Cancer Better Than Traditional Cytology
A new computer-based test for detecting pre-cancerous and cancerous conditions in cervix cells has been shown to be more accurate than conventional cytology screening methods.
According to information published in the British Medical Journal, the ThinPrep Imager (TPI) is able to detect approximately 1.3 more cases of high-grade squamous lesions per 1,000 women tested than the commonly used practice of manual slide reading.
TPI and other diagnostic imaging technologies are now being evaluated to determine if they are suitable for use in national cancer screening programs in the United Kingdom.
